벨기에는 6·25 전쟁 당시 전투부대를 파병하여 대한민국의 자유와 평화를 위해 함께 싸워준 고마운 우방국입니다. 이처럼 깊은 우정을 토대로 양국은 제약, 화학 등 미래 산업과 고부가가치 분야까지 협력을 확대해 나가고 있습니다.

특히 이번에 체결된 ‘중소기업 및 스타트업 발전 협력에 관한 양해각서’는 양국 중소기업 간 협력을 더욱 확대하고, 기업 간 상호 해외 진출을 촉진할 든든한 기반으로 자리 잡게 될 것입니다.

이미 양국은 협력을 통한 공동 성장의 모범을 보여주고 있습니다. 벨기에에 위치한 세계적 반도체 연구 기관 아이맥(IMEC)에서 대한민국 연구진들이 벨기에를 비롯한 세계 각지의 연구자들과 함께 공동의 기술 개발에 매진하고 있습니다.

이번 방문을 통해 양국의 혁신 기업 간의 교류가 더욱 활성화되고, 양국 간 미래 산업과 기술 분야 협력을 더욱 확대될 수 있길 기대합니다.

이번 회담을 통해, 대한민국과 벨기에가 미래를 함께 설계하는 동반자로 도약할 수 있으리라는 믿음을 갖게 되었습니다. 양국 협력이 양국 국민이 체감할 수 있는 변화와 성과를 만들어낼 수 있도록, 드 웨브흐 총리님과 더 긴밀히 소통하며 최선을 다하겠습니다.

It was a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the strong and enduring 125 years of friendship, and to reaffirm our shared vision for the future. I extend my sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Bart De Wever for the warm hospitality.

Belgium is a cherished partner that stood alongside the Republic of Korea during the Korean War, sending combat forces in defense of freedom and peace. Building on this deep friendship, our two countries are expanding cooperation into future-oriented and high-value sectors, including pharmaceuticals and chemicals.

In particular, the MOU on Cooperation in the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Startups signed during this visit will provide a strong foundation for deeper collaboration between our businesses and support their expansion into global markets.

Our partnership is already delivering tangible results. At IMEC, one of the world's leading semiconductor research institutes, Korean researchers are working closely with colleagues from Belgium and around the globe to advance cutting-edge technological innovation.

I hope this visit will further strengthen exchanges between innovative companies in our two countries and deepen cooperation in advanced industries and emerging technologies.

Today's meeting reinforced my confidence that the Republic of Korea and the Kingdom of Belgium can grow as partners in shaping the future together. I will continue to work closely with Prime Minister De Wever to ensure that our cooperation delivers meaningful benefits and lasting opportunities for both of our peoples.
