갈등을 딛고 평화와 번영의 새 길을 열어낸 유럽연합의 저력을 두 눈으로 확인했습니다. 유럽의 심장, 브뤼셀에서 따뜻하게 맞아주신 안토니우 코스타 상임의장님과 우르술라 폰 데어 라이엔 집행위원장님께 감사드립니다.

대한민국과 유럽연합은 법치, 민주주의, 자유무역 등의 핵심 가치를 공유하며 지난 60여 년 간 우호 협력 관계를 발전시켜 왔습니다. 정치·경제·안보 분야에서 제도적 기반을 공고히 구축했고, ‘전략적 동반자’로서 깊은 신뢰를 쌓아가고 있습니다.

이번 정상회담이 다방면에서 무한한 협력의 잠재력을 지닌 양측의 관계를 한 단계 도약으로 이끌 중요한 이정표가 될 것으로 확신합니다.

양측이 협상을 개시하기로 한 ‘비밀정보보호협정’, 양측이 서명한 ‘디지털통상협정’은 각각 한국과 EU 간 안보·방위 협력과 경제협력의 지평을 넓혀줄 중요한 주춧돌이 될 것입니다.

무엇보다 테러, 마약 등 초국가범죄 예방에 기여할 ‘승객예약정보(PNR) 전송 협정’이 타결된 것을 매우 기쁘게 생각합니다. 양측 국민의 생명과 안전을 지킬 중요한 방파제 역할을 해낼 것으로 믿습니다.

아울러 첨단기술, 기후위기, 한반도 평화 등 중요 현안에 대해서도 건설적인 의견을 나누었습니다. 변화하는 국제질서 속에서 공동의 국익을 수호하고, 국민의 삶에 도움이 될 실질적 성과를 만들어 냈기에 더욱 뜻깊은 시간이었습니다.

앞으로 더 자주 소통하고 교류하며 EU와의 협력을 확대하고, 함께 논의한 방안들이 실제 성과로 이어질 수 있도록 노력하겠습니다.

〈The Strength of the EU on Display in Brussels — Together, We Will Open a New Chapter of Shared Progress〉

I had the opportunity to see firsthand the remarkable strength of the European Union, which has overcome past conflicts and opened a new path toward peace and prosperity. I sincerely thank President António Costa and President Ursula von der Leyen for their warm welcome in Brussels, the heart of Europe.

Over the past six decades, the Republic of Korea and the European Union have developed a strong partnership based on our shared values of democracy, the rule of law, and free trade. We have established a solid institutional foundation for cooperation across political, economic, and security affairs, while building deep mutual trust as strategic partners.

I am confident that this summit will serve as an important milestone in taking our relationship to the next level.

The launch of negotiations on a Security of Information Agreement and the signing of the Digital Trade Agreement will serve as important building blocks for expanding Korea–EU cooperation in security and defence cooperation, as well as in trade and the digital economy.

I am particularly pleased that we concluded the Agreement on the Transfer of Passenger Name Record (PNR) Data, which will help prevent transnational crimes such as terrorism and drug trafficking. I believe it will serve as an important pillar in protecting the lives and security of our citizens .

We also had constructive discussions on a range of important issues, including advanced technologies, climate action, and peace on the Korean Peninsula. Our meeting was especially meaningful as it allowed us to advance our shared interests in a changing international landscape while delivering tangible outcomes that will benefit our citizens.

Going forward, we will communicate and engage even more closely with the EU, expand our cooperation, and work to ensure that the initiatives we discussed today lead to concrete results.

President Costa and President von der Leyen, I hope that our next meeting will take place in Korea.
