태평양도서지역은 우리나라 원양어업의 핵심 어장이자 미래 광물,에너지 자원이 잠재된 중요한 보고입니다. 비록 넓은 태평양을 사이에 두고 있지만, 우리는 같은 지구에 살아가는 공동운명체입니다.

한국과 태평양도서국은 1970년 통가와의 수교 이후 반세기 넘게 우호 협력 관계를 꾸준히 심화해 왔으며, 개발협력과 기후변화 대응 등 여러 분양에서 긴밀한 실질협력을 이어가고 있습니다.

우리는 그간 축적해 온 발전 경험과 기술, 재생에너지를 비롯한 녹색전환 정책을 적극 공유하며 기후위기 대응과 지속가능한 성장이라는 공동 과제를 함께 해결해 나가기로 뜻을 모았습니다.

오늘 한국을 찾아주신 달튼 타겔라기 니우에 총리를 비롯한 15개 태평양도서국 정상과 외교장관 여러분을 만나뵙게 되어 매우 뜻깊게 생각합니다. 고맙습니다.

The Pacific Islands region is a core fishing ground for Korea’s deep-sea fisheries and a vital reservoir of potential mineral and energy resources. Despite the vast Pacific Ocean between us, we are bound by a shared destiny, living together on the same planet.

Korea and the Pacific Island countries have steadily deepened their friendship and cooperation for over half a century since establishing diplomatic relations with Tonga in 1970. We continue to maintain close, practical cooperation in various areas, such as development cooperation and climate change response.

We agreed to work together to address the common challenges of climate action and sustainable growth by actively sharing our accumulated development experience and technology, along with green transition policies, including renewable energy.

It was truly meaningful to meet with Prime Minister Dalton Tagelagi of Niue and the leaders and foreign ministers of the 15 Pacific Island countries visiting Korea today. Thank you.
